“A lighting design, even when expertly developed and programmed, can fail spectacularly if not executed as planned. Specifications, quotations, drawings, procurement and installation require the same commitment to detail and professionalism. The only difference between the two categories is that the latter can be accomplished, and only accomplished, through effort and communication.”

St. Clair Square | Helzberg Diamonds | Aladdin’s Eateries

Vieng’s Asian Bistro | Gateway Hospitality Group

St. Clair SquareSt. Clair Square
Fairview Heights, IL

When Herschman Architects was charged with the renovation of the massive public interior for St. Clair Square, the project architect contacted Halper Lighting Solutions for early fixture design consultation and design interpretations. Through multiple meetings with the architect and interiors department and engineers, Bob and the rest of team were able to address materials, size, scale, functionality, ease of retrofit and lighting performance on both large and small fixtures, ranging from minimalist custom sconces to food court structural column wraps, oversized corridor light sculptures and atrium pendants. The specification was completed through the coordination of several HLS manufacturing facilities, providing consistency of finishes, lamp types and construction details. The entire package delivery was coordinated through HLS, arriving on time and on budget, installed successfully by the construction firm, and approved with distinction by the architect and client.

“The most gratifying part of this project was the opportunity to provide a harmonious interpretation of the architect’s vision for the project. By communicating from the seminal stages, the team was able to produce elegant and reliable design elements, making the set-up and maintenance of the installation both efficient and long-lasting.”

Helzberg Diamonds
North Kansas City, MO

Early in October, 2006, following a capabilities presentation at the FRCH Architects offices in Cincinnati, a senior designer approached Bob about the possibilities of providing a signature showroom fixture for the Helzberg Diamonds interiors standard. After reviewing various shade, hardware, lamping and diffuser options, initial production samples were provided for review by the Helzberg team. HLS produced the fixtures and obtained UL approval. The clean and cost effective solution was made more attractive by Halper Lighting Solutions’ logistics expertise.

HelzbergAs the client was looking for a supplier committed to the long-term success of the standards program, HLS has been a perfect partner, providing ongoing production, warehousing, and site coordination. Over the last three years, HLS has continued to supply Helzberg Diamonds with consistent custom fabrication- on-time and on budget.

“Helzberg Jewelers has been a fantastic partner. In a difficult economy, they have maintained a strong market position, and this is due in no small part to a deep company commitment to vendor communications. I admire Helzberg’s dedication to trust and collaboration. Helzberg continues to make us a better and more effective supplier.”

Alladin's picAladdin’s Eateries
Lakewood, OH

In 2004, while developing specifications for an unrelated project with Michael Augoustadis Architects, Bob was demonstrating the use of theatrical fabrics for controlling light distribution. The architect recognized that the application could be applied to a veiling layer he was contemplating with the owners of Aladdin’s Eateries’ newest restaurant interiors. HLS developed numerous options for architectural detail, and was able to demonstrate the precise lighting effects that would be created by different material compositions and orientations. Since the successful integration of these fabric panels into the Aladdin’s interiors scheme, Bob has been fortunate to work with this thriving family business, providing design, manufacturing and installation support in their evolving chain identity, and has had the pleasure of developing fixtures for Taza, the company’s flagship Lebanese restaurant in Woodmere, Ohio.

“The owners of Aladdin’s and Taza are tireless in their commitment to quality. It has been
exciting working with them, as they are very conscious of their customer’s comfort and
happiness, and are constantly looking for richer and more stimulating environments. I am
constantly challenged to do my best work, and have been rewarded with their trust and
friendship.”

Vieng’s Asian Bistro
Westlake, OH

Vieng'sIn late 2008, Herschman Architects began the process of designing an opulent, visually luxurious interior architecture for Vieng’s Asian Bistro, in the high profile Crocker Park retail district in Westlake, Ohio. Bob was asked to consult on the development of fixtures, providing numerous drawings, mock-up and prototypes of sconces, pendants and various architectural lighting elements. HLS provided custom glass, fabric, wood and metal elements, interweaving these elements with the sumptuous architectural detail of the restaurant. After numerous revisions, Bob worked with both local and national fabrication sources to provide the stunning array of fixtures, designing to ever-changing specifications on a demanding delivery schedule. The resulting warmth and sparkle mirror the restaurant’s extraordinary cuisine.

“The owners of Vieng’s have a rare eye for beauty and texture. They understand the need for a
deliberate and thoughtful process when developing the lighting scheme, and were tremendously
supportive. Recently, Vieng’s requested HLS to provide an exterior patio lighting solution.
Keep an eye out for the results soon.”

Since 2005, HLS has collaborated with Gateway Hospitality Group on the development of hotel and restaurant interiors throughout the United States. GHG is committed to creating unique and inspiring properties, with a fierce desire to break boundaries in their identity throughout the industry. “I am very grateful for the trust GHG has shown in my ability to fulfill their design concepts.
