It doesn’t have to be. Many factors go into pricing custom fixtures, including shade
materials, reflectors, diffusers and lamping. Often, the preliminary discussion of the
project’s requirements opens the door to fresh possibilities that designers and architects may not yet have considered. Alabaster glass be replaced by faux materials or faux finishes, often for a fraction of the price, while shades that were once silk can be replaced with beautiful hardback material options. Generally, it only takes a small number of fixtures on a project to open exciting opportunities for great design at a reasonable price.

2) I heard custom fixtures take forever to ship. Is this true?

Not at all. When delivery is a factor, HLS will carefully select options that are available within the time frame of the project. Since HLS is responsible for the both the design and construction of the fixtures, material orders never get stuck in a large “purchasing department” nor are materials held in order to make minimum requirements from suppliers. The process is carefully controlled (internally), with constant communication between HLS, their vendors, and their manufacturing facilities.

We have several options to make you feel more comfortable with the designs you
envision. First, we work closely with you so you can touch and see the materials we will be using. Next, we can produce various forms of drawings, from casual renderings to full scale CAD drawings. If necessary, mock-ups of the fixtures and even full scale prototypes can be created. Whatever it takes, HLS will give you the confidence that your creation will be as unique and remarkable in reality as it is in your imagination.
